Waterford Treasures: The Irish Wake Museum is Ireland’s first ever wake museum, located in a 15th century alms house in Waterford City. Visitors are invited to explore themes of life and death, uncovering traditions and superstitions from early Christian times up to the 20th century.

Waterford Treasures: The Irish Wake Museum offers visitors an opportunity to explore one of the most iconic aspects of Irish culture through the guidance of a knowledgeable tour guide on this fully guided experience.

Housed in an atmospheric building associated with life and death in Waterford City for over six centuries, visitors are taken on a fascinating journey through history. In this intimate space, the themes of death and funeral practices are explored, providing a deeper understanding of the origins of an Irish wake’s customs.

The subject matter of this museum may be upsetting for some visitors and careful consideration should be given to ensure this experience is suitable. It is advised that, at a minimum, the museum is not suitable for children under the age of 8 years.
