The Strand Bar in the heart of Strandhill is a long established family run business with a tradition of warm hospitality dating back to 1913. Owned by the Byrne brothers, it is a welcoming haven in the heart of this lively gem of a village.

The Strand Bar is popular with young and old, families and friends. The roaring turf fires and welcoming snugs ensure it is a cosy haven in the winter and its al fresco seating by the bustling seafront makes it a cool hang out in the summer months. Famous for its traditional music sessions and live bands, the sociable atmosphere ensures locals and visitors return time after time.

A tempting bar menu offers a wide range of homemade dishes with an emphasis on fresh locally sourced ingredients. The famous Guinness beef stew is much loved as is the fresh seafood platter.

The Strand Bar and Restaurants offers further dining options upstairs with the Oriental Jade Garden offering a range of popular Chinese, Thai and Malaysian dishes in house or to take away. The award winning Tra Ban Restaurant offers a superb dining option and specialises in fresh seafood and steak. It is regarded as one of Sligo’s top restaurants.

The picturesque village of Strandhill is just 10 minutes from Sligo and is vibrant throughout the year. The village is nestled between the majestic Knocknarea mountain and just a stone’s throw from the magnificent Atlantic Ocean. The challenging swells ensure it is a mecca for the surfing fraternity the world over and the sight of a surfer catching a wave is a regular occurrence. For the non-surfer there is an abundance of things to do in the area whether you want to relax and unwind or get the adrenaline pumping. There is the expert Strandhill Surf School next door, and golf nearby to challenge while relaxing seaweed baths and walks along the dunes will unwind and rejuvenate. Not forgetting the kids, there is an excellent playground and Mammy Johnstonsice cream parlour to satisfy any demands and of course the beach for some family fun. There is a selection of accommodation to suit any budget in the village.

No matter what the season, or the weather, the welcome is always warm for friends old and new. Many would say a visit to the Northwest is not complete without a trip to The Strand Bar and Restaurant. Put it on your list when visiting the Northwest. We’ll see you there!
