Explore coastal scenery, forest landscape and ancient heritage on a remote 6.9km loop in breathtaking County Sligo. A picturesque stretch of the rugged Wild Atlantic Way, you will soon discover why this county attracts so many outdoor enthusiasts.

Taking 2 hours to complete, this relatively remote coastal walk starts at the northern end of Strandhill’s seafront promenade.

The route passes the early Christian site of Killaspugbrone Church and follows sandy, stony and gravel paths through a variety of coastal habitats including sand dunes, salt marsh and pine woodland around Sligo Airport runway.

The loop returns on roadside footpaths and showcases simply magnificent views of Benbulben, Knocknarea Mountain and Sligo Bay. The trail ascends 30m overall.

Don’t miss the chance to sample incredible local food in one of Strandhill’s many welcoming cafés, pubs and restaurants, once you’ve completed this satisfying trail.
