The wonderful diversity of path type and variety of terrain and scenery make the Cadamstown - Paul’s Lane Loop a must-do for nature lovers in Offaly.
Follow a delightful mix of minor road, laneway and riverside track on this splendid looped trail through pretty countryside just north of the picturesque Slieve Bloom Mountains.
Taking between 75-90min to complete, this route starts off uphill, providing clearly marked signage (follow the blue arrows) to guide you along through peaceful forest and farmland, past streams, historic structures, and even the former village of Bordingstown – long abandoned. In fact, Paul’s Lane is named after the 18th-century village’s very last resident, Paul Maher (d.1900).
After joining the Slieve Bloom Way and Nature Trail Eco Loop at Purcell’s Brook, the trail then brings you down along the banks of the Silver River for an invigorating 1kmwaterside walk in one of the region’s loveliest natural settings.
