Keem Beach, Achill Island is located in a stunning horseshoe bay on Achill Island in County Mayo. It is a small, sheltered, sandy, rural beach surrounded by high cliffs. Keem Beach, Achill Island is located 10kms west of Keel village and past the village of Dooagh.

Keem Beach, Achill Island in County Mayo, can be found at the head of a valley between the cliffs of Benmore to the west and Croaghaun Mountain on the east of Achill Island. The cliffs has a rich amount of plants and animals, bird and wildlife watching here is also very worthwhile.

It is a popular beach for swimming, walking, surfing, kayaking, snorkelling and abseiling. There are surf schools in the local surrounding area. Keem Beach, Achill Island is lifeguarded during the bathing season from June to August. More information can be found on the noticeboards at the beach. There are lifebuoys and torpedo buoys available on the beach. Keem Beach, Achill Island does have access ramps for people with disabilities but it does not have disabled toilet facilities.

This sheltered bay is said to have been blessed by St Patrick during his stay on Croagh Patrick.

Tips from locals

Dolphins and basking sharks can sometimes be seen from the beach. Sheep can be seen grazing in the early mornings above Keem Bay.
