The Clogher Heritage Complex, near Claremorris in County Mayo, consists of a typical one bedroom labourer's cottage and garden.
Large families often lived in houses of this size, where typical features included a loft, which was used as an extra bedroom and a half door entrance, which also provided light and ventilation.
Surrounding the cottage is a display of artefacts and old farm machinery which were donated by locals. The tranquil garden also features a picnic area, water feature and sundial while a re built forge stands within the grounds.
This forge in Newtown, originally one of half a dozen working forges in the district, was in the Staunton family ownership since the 19th century. Restored in 2001, the forge contains original features such as bellows and an anvil.
The Clogher Bog Loop walk, outlined in the Clogher Walks guidebook, starts at the heritage complex and can be done all year round.
