The Clew Bay Bike Trail is a combined bike and ferry route, looping around the magical Clew Bay in County Mayo, and including both Clare Island and Achill Island.
The trail passes through some of Mayo’s most attractive seaside towns, such as Westport, Newport and Mulranny, while revealing incredible coastal scenery. The towering peak of Croagh Patrick overlooks the entire route.
The full length of the trail is 105km. This includes 14km on ferries and an optional 10km cycle around Clare Island. The mainland section from Cloughmore on Achill Island to Roonagh is 81km.
The Clew Bay Bike Trail includes two short ferry journeys, one between Roonagh Pier (near Louisbugh) and Clare Island, and another between Clare Island and Achill Island at Cloughmore.
This looped cycle experience is available when the ferries operate.
The Clew Bay Bike Trail can be cycled in either direction, starting at any point.
