This point in Claggan in north-west County Mayo offers panoramic views over Ballycroy National Park, south towards Claggan Mountain, and west, across the inlet, to Achill Island.

From here you can set off on the Claggan Mountain Coastal Trail, a gorgeous 2km coastal bay boardwalk trail that leads you into Ballycroy National Park.

Ballycroy National Park comprises of thousands of acres of Atlantic blanket bog and mountainous terrain, covering a vast uninhabited area dominated by the Nephin Beg Mountain range. The National Park Visitor Centre is located just north in the village of Ballycroy, while the seaside village of Mulranny is located to the south.

This looped walk starts from the Brogan Carroll Bothy (a basic shelter for walkers) in Letterkeen Woods - 12km from the nearest town of Newport, with the bare summits of the Nephin Beg Mountain range in the distance and the spuming Altaconey River closeby.
