Dunmore Loop Walk
More from visitors like you
A looped walk in Durrow, Co. Laois.

A-B From the village green follow the green and purple arrows into the grounds of Castle Durrow. After 200 metres turn right through wooden gates and follow arrows along the banks of the River Erkina. Cross the stile and shortly after turn right following the green arrows over a metal footbridge, the purple arrows are for the longer Leafy loop walk.

B-C Now follow the arrows through Knockanoran Wood, after 1km exit at a Coillte barrier. Walk along a narrow laneway, this will bring you on to a minor road for approx. 1km. At a T-junction, cross the road R434 with caution and turn left. After approx. 200 metres turn right on to another minor road L1652. After 300 metres the loop turns left, trough a stone stile and enters the woods of Dunmore Demesne. Follow the green and purple arrows as the loop meanders its way through the woods and joins the bank of the River Nore. After 2km on the riverbank you reach New Bridge where the loop turns right, leaves the river and crosses the N8.

C-D Continue to follow the green and purple arrows along the banks of the River Nore to reach a substantial metal footbridge over the River Erkina- cross the bridge and continue straight on –still following the bank of the River Nore through some open farmland. After 2km the loop turns sharp right and follows wooden railings for a short distance before crossing a stile and entering woodland. After less than 1km the loop crosses the N77, turns right and enters woodland again after only 100 metres. A very pleasant section of woodland and green lane takes you to a surfaced roadway at Clonageera where the loops diverge. The Leafy Loop turns left, you turn right.

D-A. Enjoy the 1km trek along the surfaced roadway back to the village.
