Abbeyleix Heritage House is housed in the historic north boys’ school in Abbeyleix, County Laois. The museum at Heritage House will transport visitors back in time allowing them to journey with the pre-Christian warring tribes of Laois.

Abbeyleix Heritage House was once home to the Abbeyleix Carpet Factory, where a number of hand tufted carpets were made for the state room for the Titanic. The Heritage Centre provides a fantastic insight to the pre-Christian warring tribes of Laois. Visitors can learn about the Norman influence, the suppression of the monasteries at the hands of Henry VIII and progress through plantations, the influence of the landlords and Ireland’s brush with the industrial revolution.

This 19th century school now houses a heritage centre and museum. Exhibits include ancient artefacts and more recent traditional craft from Laois. Discover the story of Abbeyleix, built by the de Vesci landlords. Explore its architectural gems and some intriguing links to the Titanic. Step back in time and visit the Sexton House. Viewing of the Sextons house can be arranged through Heritage House and must be booked in advance.
