Roundstone Music and Crafts is run by Malachy Kearns, fondly known as Malachy Bodhrán amongst folk musicians. He is respected as a fine bodhrán maker and is one of the only dedicated, full time bodhrán makers in the world. He has handmade all of the bodhráns used in Riverdance over the past 25 years.
A bodhrán is a 16 or 18 inch one sided drum made from goatskin, which has unique stretch properties treated by a traditional process. This musical instrument's name derives from the Irish word bodhán, pronounced 'bowrawn', which means deaf or haunting. It is known for producing spirit stirring music.
Roundstone Music and Crafts features a fine craft shop that sells music, fashion and gifts, with an adjacent coffee shop. Regular talks and demonstrations are given on the bodhrán. A private car park is also provided for visitors.
