Connemara Sheep and Wool Centre
Leenane, Co. Galway
Learn about sheep farming in Connemara and also follow the wool from sheep to yarn through daily hands on wool-craft demonstrations at The Connemara Sheep and Wool Centre in Leenane, County Galway, in the West of Ireland.

Watch as these ancient skills are practiced on spinning wheels and looms from the turn of the last century. An introduction to the local area is available in English, French, German, Spanish or Italian while there is a pictorial display of the history of sheep and wool handicrafts.

The demonstration is an interactive journey, turning sheep’s raw fleece into knitting yarn including carding, spinning and weaving. Learn about traditional farming methods, natural dyeing and knitting and get an answer to all your woolly and sheepish questions.

The gift shop has a great range of goods including small mementos, handcrafted scarves from the demonstration area, knitting yarn, woollens and sheepskins.

Practical items include rainwear, while a variety of books by Irish novelists and authors on local history, flora and fauna, plus Ordnance Survey maps for walkers are also in stock.

Bia Blas Café serves coffee and tea, lunch, snacks and the home baking.
