Tracing Knowledge Transmission: Manuscript Notes in Arabic Literary Works at the Chester Beatty
Dublin City, Co. Dublin
27 November 2024
Free to visit
The notes added into Arabic literary manuscripts offer invaluable insights into the history of knowledge transmission in pre-modern Arabic and Islamic culture.

Focusing on the Chester Beatty’s collections, Dr Elseadawy will highlight how readers engaged with the broader Arabic literary tradition of adab, by writing into their own books. Delivered by the 2024 Cochrane Research Fellow, this new research uncovers aspects of intellectual history, and the cultural significance of these medieval and early modern manuscripts from across the Arab world.
