Out of Thin Air: Reading Manuscript Pages that Don't Exist
Dublin City, Co. Dublin
30 April 2025
Free to visit
This lecture shows what happens when we leverage new technologies to work with old objects, focusing on one complex sixth-century copy of Paul’s Letters. With Prof. Garrick V. Allen, Professor of Divinity & Biblical Criticism, University of Glasgow.

Disassembled on Mt Athos in the thirteenth century, the manuscript’s 82 pages are now spread across multiple museums and monasteries. This talk tells the story of the manuscript and outlines how we recovered the text of 73 additional now-lost pages.

FREE Hybrid Talk: This lecture will be delivered in the Reference Library.

No booking required for onsite talk, please register for online viewing via Zoom.
