Newbridge House is an 18th century Georgian mansion set in 370 acres of beautiful parkland including a working farm.
Built to the design of James Gibbs in 1747 for the then Archbishop of Dublin, Charles Cobbe, the Newbridge House and estate opened to the public in 1986. It won the 2019 Experts' Choice Award and offers something for all ages which includes 370 acres of gently undulating pastureland, woodland walks, wild flower meadows, the traditional working farm, which is a favourite of local children, the ruins of Lanistown Castle and a deer park. At its heart is the fine Georgian house designed by the renowned architect James Gibbs.
The Red Drawing Room is one of the finest Georgian rooms in Ireland and is home to the best documented 18th century private art collection in the country. The Museum of Curiosities (one of the few surviving family museums in Ireland or Britain) and the ornate plasterwork found throughout the house, are of particular note. A private apartment is still maintained for the family, continuing a line of occupancy unbroken since the 18th century.
Newbridge Farm is home to a vast array of animals ranging from the Shetland and Connemara ponies of the paddock, to the piglets, goats and chickens of the farmyard. Access to the farm is through a cobbled courtyard and kids can enjoy the Discovery Trail. Newbridge Demesne is very committed to the highest standards of animal welfare and to the preservation of many rare breeds of animals, such as the Gloucester Old Spot, an English breed of pig, which have all but disappeared due to intensive methods of farming.
The house has also been the filming location for movies, including 'The Spy Who Came in from the Cold' and the Oscar award winning 'Barry Lyndon'.
Guided tours of the house are available in English with audio guides in Irish, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Russian and Mandarin. Delicious treats are baked daily in the Coach House Café which is open daily all year round. There are a range of seasonally themed events through out the year such as at Halloween and Christmas. Newbridge House also hosts the annual Flavours of Fingal County Fair.
Located a 15 minute walk from Donabate train station or about 30 minute's drive from Dublin City centre.
