Designed by architect Thomas Cooley and constructed between 1769 and 1779, Dublin City Hall is one of Dublin City’s finest examples of Georgian and neoclassical architecture. Originally known as the Royal Exchange, the building was commissioned by the Guild of Merchants as a centre for trade and commerce, where merchants met to exchange currencies and conduct business within its impressive rotunda and elegant halls.
Dublin City Hall also became associated with key moments in modern Irish history and today is renowned both for its architectural grandeur and its role as a prestigious venue for events and weddings. Admission to Dublin City Hall is free, though opening hours may vary due to weddings or events.
