Uncover one of West Clare's best kept secrets and visit Scattery Island, lying at the mouth of the River Shannon.

During the summer months, hop on a boat from Kilrush Marina to Slattery Island and take in stunning views of some of Ireland’s most outstanding historical sites, from the remains of the island village ‘The Street’, to the holy well said to have healing qualities.

Wander around the impressive 6th Century monastic settlement founded by St Senan, which has survived several vicious Viking attacks. Be left in awe by the ruins of O’Cahane castle, an Elizabethan tower house built in the 16th Century, as well as its 18th Century battery which was built in defence against French invasions.

AutumnScattery Island Centre

The Scattery Island Centre interprets the monastic site on Scattery Island which is 2.5km off the shores of Kilrush, County Clare. The monastery, consisting of a round tower and several churches, was founded by St. Senan in the early part of the 6th century.
