Tawnylust Lodge is a peaceful haven for those dreaming of time-out or a fabulous location from which to tour Leitrim, Sligo, Cavan and Fermanagh. Located in Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands and a short drive from the Wild Atlantic Way. Purpose built to the highest environmental and building standards, the lodge is really comfortable with a heat recovery system giving a fresh warm feeling throughout. High quality furnishings and tableware give a luxurious feeling to this rural stay. Local art and craft on display give guests and idea of what’s on offer in the area. Owner/manager Nuala McNulty is a font of information for visiting guests as to what to see and where to go. Based on a farm, the rural location is a great place to come and recharge your batteries. The toughest decision of the day is which window to observe the wildlife and farm activities from, the only drawback to the triple glazing being that you may have to step outside to hear to full advantage the birdsong.

For those wanting to participate in activities, walking and hill walking options are on your doorstep. Surrounded by lakes and rivers, the Lodge is an ideal base for anglers and cyclists and is on the North West cycle trail. Guided nature, archaeology and foraging walks are on offer from the lodge with local guides from Leitrim Landscapes Guided Walks or self-guiding maps are available. Adjacent to Cuilcagh Geopark, there are wonderful trails and archaeology sites to visit.

Don’t worry about forgetting anything while packing, it’s probably there for guests anyway. Try out some of the fabulous restaurants in nearby Manorhamilton, Dromahair or Blacklion. Have a treat to a day’s surfing in Donegal and do the Roughey cliffwalk or take the Yeat’s tour of Sligo and admire Benbulben from the bottom or top. See Glencar or Fowley’s waterfalls or go caving. If one prefers to meander by the lake or river then Leitrim is the place with wonderful woods such as Glenfarne, Milltown and Lurganboy forests close by. Come home, open a bottle of wine and observe the sunset and moon rise from the couch or patio. Views from Tawnylust Lodge are food for the soul with Ballinabehy mountain range and Munakill Lake to the South and Doagh Mountain to the North. Children can explore the farm and meet some of the animals or play hide and seek in the trees. The profusion of wildflowers and trees in bloom in the spring and summer are amazing. The area is well serviced with playgrounds and picnic areas so the kids certainly won’t get bored.

If guests want to trace your ancestry, Manorhamilton and Ballinamore libraries are invaluable and Nuala will give guests an introduction to ‘locals in the know’. Immerse in that book you’ve been threatening to read and the uninterrupted hours will sail by. The nearby Glens Theatre and Rainbow Ballroom offer drama and concerts and the Ardhowen and Hawks Well theatres in Enniskillen and Sligo always have something interesting on offer. Catch a music session in one of the local pubs. Taxis are readily available but guests won’t really want to leave.
